Perry is Perry is a Chicago native, birthed to Laurie Metcalf and Jeff Perry. The character Jackie Harris was played by her mom in both of the two episodes she appeared on Roseanne. The actress did not go on to consider a career in acting after reaching adulthood, as her parents were concerned about the adverse impact stress might have. Perry says she didn't want to become an actor during highschool but decided to start performing as a form of social interaction at Northwestern University when she switched to it from Boston University. Perry, after graduating from Boston University, moved in New York in search of television roles. She landed small parts on TV shows like Law & Order: Criminal Intent. But, her home-sickness brought her back to California in search of theater jobs. In 2013 she performed in The Other Place on Broadway alongside her mother. She appeared in Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prize winner Anna Christie as well as Kevin McKidd. This was staged at West Los Angeles' Odyssey Theatre Ensemble. Perry appeared nine times in The Family, an ABC film The Family, in 2016. In 2017, she was a part-time character in ABC's thriller about politics Scandal which starred her father. Also, she was cast on her role on the CBS show The Big Bang Theory spinoff Young Sheldon as a version younger of Mary Cooper, Sheldon Cooper's mom. The character was chosen by auditions, even though she had a close connection with it.
